I often find myself reflecting on life's pivotal moments, sliding doors if you will, thinking what would have happened if I turned left instead of right, if I walked through a door instead of past it, or if I picked up the phone instead of letting it go to voicemail. In reality, you can only control what lies ahead, its these choices that shape our journey, and how we respond to life’s uncertainties that truly defines our path. Last week, my tenure at Randstad Sourceright ended due to of these uncertainties - redundancy. However, I move forward with confidence, knowing that the mentorship, guidance, and investment from our country leaders Marios Demetriou, James Freer, and Nikki de Villiers have tremendously elevated my skills and prepared me for the next step in my career. I am currently actively seeking new opportunities and have been encouraged by the conversations and connections made this week and, I remain open to continuing in the talent field, whether operationally or through talent value advisory solutions. As Wayne Gretzky famously said, "You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take". So, this is me, taking my shot and reaching out to my network, accumulated across my career, welcoming any conversations across talent insights, trends, and opportunities that may be on the horizon. #opentowork #careeropportunity #talentacquisition #recruitment #rpo #talentadvisory #talentstrategy #talentmanagement #careerchange #careergrowth

Thanks Bryan Peña, CCWP for the #DefiantOriginStory nomination. While I greatly value integrity; I’d like to start my #DefiantOriginStory by admitting that I LIED to get my first job.I don’t recall the labor laws at the time, but I do remember you had to be 16 to work at McDonald’s so that’s what I wrote down on the application.Within a couple weeks I was manning the fry station on the closing shift, and my mom would pick me up at 2:30 AM.At 16, I lived alone periodically as my family temporarily relocated across the country due to a medical crisis and I travelled back and forth for school. One time I ran out of grocery money, but the bank wouldn’t let me have the cash I earned without a parent. #QuestionStatusQuo has stuck with me since.Growing up my parents instilled a crazy work ethic. Both defied their parents and went to college. They both got PhDs.Far from academics, when I was in grade school they bought a dilapidated farm and moved my sister and I out to the country. We grew much of the food we ate, did our own renovations and by the time I was 10 I was laying hardwood flooring. At 17, I got an internship at NIH working on the HIV virus and worked evenings at Hardees.I lived in fear Hardee’s would find out I was working with the AIDS virus, but we needed the extra money.I worked in labs for the next 8 years.Along the way, I expanded the disconnect between education and industry with a degree in Literature. On the side, I discovered this thing called the Internet. Before long I was hosting Gopher sites out of my bedroom.I was one of the first 10,000 users of Linux, but it took me a few years to #SeeThePossible and apply for a job in IT.I soon landed at Allegis, which is where I learned that #CultureIsPower. Joining Allegis was one of the luckiest accidents I’ve had in my career.I had three jobs in my first year and was soon running multiple departments, leading the global network modernization, and collaborating across business lines. There was a problem though.I was a hard-core introvert working at a hard-core sales organization.I felt like I had to pretend to be someone I wasn’t, and I resisted the culture. In the early 2000s, IT lost its appeal and I refocused on the core business of Allegis, working on staffing deals and figuring out the emerging VMS/MSP market.I decided to show up as my #GenuineSelf, which lifted a huge weight.Surprisingly, people still liked me, and I finally got the culture, which I'm 100% positive won us business.I got on the ground floor of Allegis Global Solutions, where I spent the next 13 years and then moved to MBO Partners to continue my journey in the industry. Currently I’m designing my next career chapter as a consultant and business owner. We’ll see how this Freelance economy treats me and I’m excited to work with old friends and create some new ones.I'm nominating Jennifer Kudla, PMP and Maria Boyse for their #DefiantOriginStory.
